Juliane Lenssen studied object- and puppet theatre in Germany and Poland. She has staged as an actress and director at various venues and is co-director of Das Letzte Kleinod. She is also an author and director of children’s theatre and develops performances with young people as a theatre pedagogue. She conducted workshops about documentary theatre with different groups in international contexts such as teachers, theatre pedagogues, youngsters and other. Das Letzte Kleinod performs on places that are connected to the stories which are told as site-specific theatre. The documentary work with young people has been particularly well received internationally, so that Juliane Lenssen has been invited as a key speaker or workshop leader to international meetings and conferences in the Netherlands, Estonia, Greece, Lithuania and Turkey. The theatre work with young people has been enriched by international cooperation with partner countries like France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Poland, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy, Shetland and Lithuania; a global youth exchange with South Africa took place in 2022/2023. The idea of connecting (young) people from different cultures to learn from each other and create together has been a thread throughout her creative work.
Juliane Lenssen promotes the idea of documentary theatre in a way that develops performances based on interviews with witnesses of time or people “from the street”. The projects are developed with the means of theatre, music, dance and object-theatre and deal with current topics such as sustainability, climate change, racism, identity or with historical topics in a documentary way and
establish a connection to “today”.
